When you think about remodeling the house, probably the possibility of extending a room or changing cabinets in the kitchen or modernizing an older home. However, there is a whole new market of people needing home renovations – the elderly.
Reforms for the elderly:
According to a recent CNN report, home renovations for the elderly are increasing. Such reforms are the strongest segment growth in the remodeling industry, said James Lapides of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). NAHB recent study found that 75 percent of remodeling companies have seen an increased demand called "aging in place" at work.
"Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist program offered by the NAHB Remodelers Council to teach professionals how to modify homes for the elderly has increased in enrollment, according to Lapides. Representatives of the NAHB and the AARP created the program in 2002. Over 1,000 participants have learned the techniques of construction and structural awareness to meet the physical needs. Statistics show older want to stay home:
According to AARP, 83% of people over age 45 own their own homes. A survey by the AARP in 2003, "These Four Walls, the sample of this group and found that 75% expect to remain for the rest of their lives. 51% consider making changes if it can happen.
In addition, the National Association of Home Builders conducted a survey of remodelers and learned that:
? 75% said they were getting more requests for "aging in place" projects
? 60% had to "age in place" projects. Among them:
? 43% of clients were 45 to 54
? 76% of clients were 55 to 64
? 67% of clients were over 65 years
Remodelers customers reported that they wanted to aging in place remodeling because:
? 75% were planning for future needs
? 53% lived with their elderly parents
? 46% had acute age-related disability
? 23% had severe disabilities unrelated to aging

A remodeling project:
Some families take their elderly parents to live with them and extend a portion of the house to accommodate this change. Others are making changes to physical reasons, such as enlargement of doors for wheelchairs, under the bathroom walls and adding grab bars. Other changes include simply updating an old home because of normal wear. However, the current trend is to do everything with style.
An example of a project to accommodate the remodeling took place in a backyard in California. The theater was rebuilt to become habitable for a family apartment of 70 years, father of Paget's disease.
