The point is not to be able to see exactly what you are doing. It makes for a more interesting product. It’s easy to draw or make something when you can see exactly what you are doing. It takes more time and talent to do it blind.
Just like blind contour drawings or light drawings.

Sweet idea, nice execution and demo, but can I be the one to point out the huge basic problem? The “designer” can’t see what she is doing. Waving around in thin air, with no feedback at all. Might as well be blindfolded. And it kind of shows in the final item…
Next-time VR-style “eye phones” with realtime 3D overlay? Magnetically controlled force-feedback gloves?
Anyway – cool.

MunkiArt on Tue, 19th Jan 2010 11:03 pm
Yea basically they use the “magic wand” to draw whatever they want, and the computer records the movement like zarbicore said, and the machine produces a prototype in plastic of whatever you have drawn! It’s mindblowing if you think about it… In (quite) a few years time, you might actually be able to draw food, and the machine can generate it! hehe..
Or whatever you like! The group is called Front Design. Google them, they’re so worth it.

carpedium123 on Wed, 20th Jan 2010 12:56 am
that was one of the most disturbing videos ever.
IkanReedanRite on Wed, 20th Jan 2010 1:48 am
Hence the existence of the mute button and volume control.
zarbicore on Wed, 20th Jan 2010 1:55 am
The people are drawing furniture but moving some little wand thing around in the air. They obviously cannot see the result, but a computer is recording their movements and adding the white line we see.
At least thats my understanding of it
Forzan on Wed, 20th Jan 2010 2:46 am
this would be so much better without the high pitched beeps in the annoying music.
